Synopsis

SHORT

Patsy Palmer plays a woman coming to terms with the loss of her sister during her idyllic childhood while trying to contend with gritty urban life. She overcomes these obstacles in this virtually dialogue free film by creating Another Green World in a novel yet uplifting way

LONG

Patsy Palmer plays a singleton woman living in Urban London, surrounded by the grit & grime of modern life. She harks back to a more idyllic time where she grew up in the countryside along with the sister she adored. Alas, during her childhood years her sister was killed in a car crash & has affected her ever since. In an attempt to put behind the continued misery of the loss of her sister combined with trying to find a batter way out of London, while having to remain in London, she has the idea of taking on an allotment. In the UK allotments can be hired on a monthly basis purely for the growing of fruit and vegetables. (They hark back to the world wars where all citizens were encouraged to “dig for victory”). In an act of defiance she actually turns her allotment patch into Another Green World & rids her demons & installs grass & a water fountain. The latter symbolising the birth of life, thereby replacing the loss of her sister, coupled with the old euphemism: “it’s always greener on the other side”.

The story is to be told from the POV of the woman. All exterior influences into her world are only there as an intrusion. While the story is fairly dialogue free, sound is still a driving force.

Colour grading is actively used to show the woman’s journey. The story has an arc that starts with happiness in flashback. These are warm colour toned, looking bright and engaging, while the present day is gloomier, with a greyish cast. By the end of the story, when MARY reaches another green world, on her finished allotment plot, the colour shift is bright warm colours.

The aim of the film is to work on many levels & illicit many emotions from sadness through to happiness, while appealing to a family audience along with a combined universal story of people trapped in cities trying to get out.
